The Scottish Heritage Pass 2016

We are delighted to be offering the Scottish Heritage Pass once again in 2016. The pass offers entry to most of Scotland's historic attractions at competitive rates.

Here we answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

What is the advantage of having a Scottish Heritage Pass?

It gives access to all Historic Scotland and National Trust for Scotland properties at a reduced rate. It also helps as you don't have to buy tickets at each site - you have 'Fast Track Entry' for Edinburgh Castle (which does get very busy) and it allows you to make impulse visits to other sites as you go.

When is it valid?

For any seven consecutive days between 1 April and 30 October 2016.

How much does it cost?

Adult (16 - 59): GBP 49

Concession (over 60): GBP 38

Child (5 - 16): GBP 27

Chilren under 5 years: Free

Note: age identification may be requested at sites.

Can I buy one when I get to Scotland?

Regrettably not. Passes are only available through tour operators and travel agents.

What sites are covered by the pass?

All Historic Scotland and National Trust for Scotland properties are covered. A complete list is at the foot of the page.

What well known sites are NOT covered by the pass?

This list is not exclusive but it may be helpful to know that the following privately-owned sites do not accept the Scottish Heritage Pass:

Glamis Castle, Cawdor Castle, Dunnottar Castle, Dunvegan Castle, Inveraray Castle, Balmoral Castle, Dunrobin Castle, Eilean Donan Castle.

So how much might I save?

If you take the first seven days of an itinerary such as our Exploring the Highlands, then the sums for the visits we suggest would look like this ...

Edinburgh Castle: £16.50

Gladstone's Land: £6.50

Lochleven Castle: £5.50

Crathes Castle & Gardens: 12.50

Culloden Battlefield: £11.00

Fort George: £8.50

Urquhart Castle: £8.50

TOTAL:                       £69.00

Adult Explorer Pass: £49.00

Saving (per adult):   £20.00

How can I work out if it is worthwhile for us?

We will advise Scottish Clans and Castles clients whether their itinerary justifies buying a pass, and for which dates.

What do I receive when I buy a Scottish Heritage Pass?

The passes themselves which have a barcode on them.

A booklet showing all the sites arranged by region (with their opening times, contact numbers and postcodes) which accept the pass.

Any small print I should be aware of?

Not really. Passes are valid for one entry only per site and are non refundable and non transferable.

"Thank you so much for your help with our trip. Your recommendations for places to stay, sights to visit and even the route to drive were incredibly helpful - because of your help, this was one of the best trips of our lives! Thank you also for taking the time to get to know us and putting together an itinerary that fit us perfectly - it was NOT a cookie cutter, one-size-fits-all itinerary! I would recommend Clans and Castles to anyone who is planning a trip to Scotland (I already have!). Your help made the difference between a nice trip and a trip we will be talking about for ages."
