The Scottish Heritage Pass 2018

We are delighted to be offering the Scottish Heritage Pass once again in 2018. The pass offers entry to most of Scotland's historic attractions at competitive rates.

Here we answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

What is the advantage of having a Scottish Heritage Pass?

It gives access to all Historic Scotland and National Trust for Scotland properties at a reduced rate. It also helps as you don't have to buy tickets at each site - you have 'Fast Track Entry' for Edinburgh Castle (which does get very busy) and it allows you to make impulse visits to other sites as you go.

When is it valid?

For any seven consecutive days between 1 April and 30 October 2018.

How much does it cost?

Age Cost
Adult (16 - 59) GBP £50.00
Concession (over 60) GBP £40.00
Child (5 - 16) GBP £30.00
Children under 5 years Free

Note: age identification may be requested at sites.

Can I buy one when I get to Scotland?

Regrettably not. Passes are only available through tour operators and travel agents.

What sites are covered by the pass?

All Historic Scotland and National Trust for Scotland properties are covered. A complete list is at the foot of the page.

What well known sites are NOT covered by the pass?

This list is not exclusive but it may be helpful to know that the following privately-owned sites do not accept the Scottish Heritage Pass:

Glamis Castle, Cawdor Castle, Dunnottar Castle, Dunvegan Castle, Inveraray Castle, Balmoral Castle, Dunrobin Castle, Eilean Donan Castle, Drumlanrig Castle, Hopetoun House, Mount Stuart, Traquair House.

So how much might I save?

If you take the first seven days of an itinerary such as our Exploring the Highlands, then the sums for the visits we suggest would look like this ...

Historic Attractions Cost
Edinburgh Castle £17.00
Gladstone's Land £6.50
Lochleven Castle £5.50
Crathes Castle & Gardens £12.50
Culloden Battlefield £11.00
Fort George £8.50
Urquhart Castle £8.50
  Total £70.00

Adult Explorer Pass: £50.00 Saving £20.00 (per adult):

How can I work out if it is worthwhile for us?

We will advise Scottish Clans and Castles clients whether their itinerary justifies buying a pass, and for which dates.

What do I receive when I buy a Scottish Heritage Pass?

A booklet showing all the sites arranged by region (with their opening times, contact numbers and postcodes) which accept the pass. The passes themselves which need your signature to be valid.

Any small print I should be aware of?

Not really. Passes are valid for seven consecutive days, one entry only per site, non refundable and non transferable.

What do I do next?

Clients of Scottish Clans and Castles should contact us to request passes or ask advice.

People who are not yet clients of Scottish Clans and Castles may like to look at our 'Introduction to Touring Holidays'.
